DCC to Host 61st Annual Southern 500 Golf Invitational

PolyQuest to Serve as Presenting Corporate Sponsor

Darlington Country Club will host the 61st annual Southern 500 Golf Invitational Aug. 22-24. PolyQuest, a privately held thermoplastic resin distributor headquartered in Wilmington, NC, with U.S. facilities in Darlington and Florence, SC, and Farmingdale, NY, will serve as the presenting corporate sponsor for the tournament.

The Southern 500 Golf Invitational is one of the longest running amateur tournaments in South Carolina. This three-day, 54-hole stroke play event annually attracts more than 100 competitors from across the state and surrounding region. Tim Huntley, owner of Darlington Country Club along with his wife, Nancy, says the support provided by corporate sponsors like PolyQuest is invaluable to putting on a quality event.

“We greatly appreciate PolyQuest stepping up to be the presenting sponsor of this year’s Southern 500 Golf Invitational,” said Huntley. “PolyQuest is respected worldwide as being a leader in their respective industry and they are a beacon of excellence for our community. We are blessed to receive support from all our sponsors, and we look forward to putting on a great tournament later this month.”

PolyQuest has a global footprint and offers one of the most extensive resin catalogs in the hemisphere for the bottle, sheet, strapping, film, fiber, compounding, and injection molding markets.

This year’s Southern 500 Golf Invitational promises to be bigger and better than ever. On the evening of Friday, Aug. 22, the club will have dinner and performances by the Catalinas, one of the most popular beach music bands in America, for its members, players and tournament sponsors. A dinner for players and sponsors is also planned for the evening of Aug. 23.

Zach Herold of Lexington, SC, is the defending tournament champion. Darlington’s Jamie Stanley has a tournament-best nine championships to his credit, including a streak of three in a row from 2021-23.

DCC is in the process of transitioning the Southern 500 Golf Invitational to a South Carolina non-profit organization that will file for tax exempt status as a 501 © (3) entity. This non-profit, which will be called “Friends of Southern 500 Junior Golf,” will help provide junior golf scholarships to deserving youth in Darlington County and surrounding areas.

Darlington Country Club first opened in 1926 and will celebrate its Centennial next year.
